As usual our Year One Students have had a wonderful start to a new year at school. Thanks to a fantastic beginning in Prep, as well as lots of encouragement from home, we have a class of eager learners, who have shown they are well and truly ready to enter the world of Literacy and Numeracy here in Year One. Here is our busy class:

Reading and Writing activities are the main focus of our mornings in APA. Several times a week we join with AST for our very popular Literacy Activities, where the children participate in nine different Reading or Writing tasks in small groups. Visitors are often amazed at how these timed rotational activities run like a well oiled machine! Here are some of the children busy at a few Literacy Group activities:

During first term we also covered a Science Unit called “Weather in My World”. Our Queensland weather co-operated of course, providing us with an amazing range of weather types to observe and discuss together – from heatwaves and cyclones, to thunder, lightning and bright sunny days. Here are the children holding up some clouds we made – we have had a lot of cloud experience this term!

We are also working on building up a portfolio of art works. To date we have worked on several crayon drawing skills and activities in our special Visual Art Diaries. Here are the children showing some of their work:
