The Year 6/7 students will create their own zen gardens from sand and rocks.  They will study vocabulary to do with leisure activities, school, home and the town.  They will attempt to follow Japanese directions around the school and on a map of Pomona without getting too lost!  They will be making a cherry blossom tree using origami.  Also they will do some Kanji Art and making okonomiyaki which is a savoury Japanese pancake.

The Year 4/5 students will use the computers to write their names in Japanese script.  They will study classroom vocabulary and ownership, the colours, numbers and body parts.  They will also be learning words associated with the family.  We will also look into the Japanese motor industry.  We will celebrate girls’ day with a tea ceremony and dress up in kimonos.  The boys will dress up for boys’ day in traditional headbands, coats and pants.

All students will be learning hiragana.  This year we will all have a go at Kanji art which is Japanese calligraphy.
