Responsible Behaviour

Plan

Our Purpose
Our School Motto is CARING, SHARING AND ACHIEVING TOGETHER

We aim to assist students move towards effective, self-management and to find ways of satisfying their needs in responsible ways. To this end students will be given opportunities to:

  • learn how to get along well with others – to show care, concern ad courtesy and to develop the skills of cooperation. This is what we mean by CARING and SHARING

  • reach their full potential by learning how to acquire and apply a wide range of knowledge and skills to both the present and the future, and to become responsible for their own learning. In this students will demonstrate willingness to work TOGETHER and pride in ACHIEVING

Our Beliefs

We believe that

  • all behaviour is purposeful, and that purpose is always an attempt to satisfy basic needs

  • all behaviours are internally motivated

  • we all choose what we do with our lives and we are responsible for these choices

  • people can learn to satisfy their needs in responsible ways

  • an environment that supports positive behaviour encourages change more effectively than one that focuses on negative behaviour

A Quality Standard for Student Self-Management

Level

Number of adults assisting the student to become self-managed

Level 1

Self-managed (1 person – the student)

This means that the student rarely needs reminders or prompts to be on task or care about other people, property or the environment

Level 2

Self + teacher (2 people)

This means the student requires support from the teacher

Level 3

Self + teacher + parent (3 people)

This means that the student is making behaviour choices that are serious enough for parents to be informed regularly (i.e. a few times a term). This may require referral to the GO (dependent on the nature of the situation).

Level 4

Self + teacher + parent + Administration and/or Guidance Officer (4 people)

This means the student is making behaviour choices serious enough for parents and admin to be regularly involved. An IMP would be in place and the student would be receiving support from a number of staff members

Level 5

Self + teacher + parent + Administration and/or Guidance Officer+ Specialist, eg. paediatrician, Child and Adolescent Mental Health (5 people)

As for Level 4. The student would also be receiving support from an outside agency.
