Our vision for gifted and talented learners at Pomona
State School is to ensure they are provided with opportunities to meet their
full potential and extended to enhance their learning experiences. We
want gifted students to feel proud, excited, safe and develop a passion for
learning and excelling.
At Pomona State School we have implemented a whole school
approach to identifying students who are gifted. Students are
nominated by teachers and referred to a Student Support meeting or Gifted
Education Mentor to discuss the learner and how we can best support the
teacher and the learner. We have a school register of gifted students,
so teachers and other staff are aware of these students and can
differentiate curriculum or extend them. In every classroom, teachers
and support staff are challenging, motivating and extending their students
in any area where they are gifted or have a strength.
We have an annual overview to keep track of all
activities in each term used to expand interest and enhance education.
This allows the school to see areas we need to improve in, to allow maximum
opportunities for all students.
Our policy and ideals are based around the
Gifted and
Talented Framework for Education Queensland. (new window)
