At Pomona State School, we
believe in the value of outdoor education and camp experiences, and have
agreed as a staff to support a school wide outdoor education and camping
program.
Pomona State School fosters the development of five key
citizenship roles
in all that we do within our school community, in partnership with parents,
students and staff. This extends to activities which take staff and students
out of the school environment, and specifically, to one-day excursions and
multi-day school camps.
We believe that building
relationships and friendships between students and staff, coupled with the
day outing/camp environment, provides a completely different opportunity for
this to occur. Camps and excursions allow students to develop a degree of
independence, away from parents, siblings and their normal home
environment. Academically, we look to enhance the knowledge and
understanding of the children about aspects of the wider environment and
student interests.
Camps and excursions are
an opportunity for students to experience the practical aspects of the unit
of work which they are focussing on during that particular term.
Teachers aim to ensure
that camps and excursions, have a direct learning relationship to the
work being undertaken in the classroom.
Camps and excursions are
only possible through the dedication and commitment of the teachers and
staff at our school. They are undertaken completely at the discretion of the
teachers and the Pomona State School Leadership Team (i.e. Principal, Head
of Student Support, Business Services Manager, the Administration
Officer/s). In any given year it may be decided to forgo the camp
experience.
